Research

I was a member of the Wearable Computer Laboratory at the University of South Australia from 2002-2009. I primarily worked on mobile outdoor augmented reality systems.

I have worked on a number of different projects including:

  • Vision-based indoor tracking system
  • Outdoor AR games for consumer-grade hardware
  • Developing compact and robust mobile AR wearable computers
  • Lightweight hand-tracking for mobile AR
  • X-Ray vision for outdoor AR systems

More details about these projects are available on the projects page.

From 2005-2009 I worked on my PhD research entitled X-Ray Vision for Mobile Outdoor Augmented Reality. This thesis presents a system for enabling the superman-like ability of x-ray vision outdoors using augmented reality technologies. The thesis presents unique visualizations and user interaction techniques to improve the user’s spatial perception when using the system. The thesis includes a discussion on data acquisition methods, a quantitative study and the design of a compact augmented reality hardware system and a mobile robot for obtaining.
